Zavagnin Replaces Mastroeni For US

Pablo Mastroeni has been replaced by Kerry Zavagnin for the US friendly with Brazil, Sunday. Mastroeni has been ill since Colorado’s 1-1 draw with Columbus Sunday. Zavagnin, 33 was used often by Bruce Arena as a holding midfielder during qualifying for World Cup 2006, but was cut from the team before Germany 2006.

Why call up someone for a friendly who has no shot at playing in 2010? It makes no sense whatsoever.

I agree with both comments. What the hell is the point of brining in a 33 year old who in his prime couldn’t even make the 23 man World Cup squad?

Bradley is slowly but surely proving to be another Arena who is willing to call up any scrub from MLS to get them training and a cap.
