The US has, in the past, left it late to finish off an opponent like this in competitive matches. I say the US wins 2-0 with one goal coming after 85 mins while Slovenia pushes forward for an equalizer.

Can’t think of anyone who ever accused the USMNT of being excessively artistic.

But then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder…Green’s Jerry Lewis routine in US-England looked absolutely gorgeous to these eyes. And maybe snobs like to wizz on counter-attacking tactics, but the play culminating in Donovan’s goal v Brazil in the Confederations Cup final was classy as hell. And then there’s what Dempsey’s capable of.

I’ll take the three points over any obvious style.

I do agree, though, that we have players capable of playing the beautiful game.

Proofread. Also, FIFA rankings mean nothing.

Amen. Until FIFA adopts the BCS method of championships, the rankings mean little, if anything.

I’m thinking that thanks to the England draw, this is not quite the “must win” game people have been saying it is. Momentum-wise, of course, another draw would be a downer, but as long as we beat Algeria in the third game, it’s hard to see how we wouldn’t get through with five points. The only scenario would be that Slovenia draws 2-2 or 3-3 with England and the US only beats Algeria 1-0…

Having said that, a win tomorrow would be great for confidence, momentum, fan-excitement, and it would take off the pressure of making it through to the 2nd round…
