US Squad for Qualifying Announced

US Man­ager Bob Bradley has recalled Rico Clark and omit­ted Kenny Cooper, Freddy Adu and Jozy Alti­dore in his 20 man squad for the upcom­ing World Cup qual­i­fiers ver­sus Cuba and Trinidad and Tobago. Mar­vell Wynne and Michael Orozco have also been called into the team. Both Wynne and Orozco are in my mind deserv­ing of a call up to the senior team and this is nice move by Bradley.

How­ever, oth­er­wise this is an unbe­liev­able squad selec­tion quite hon­estly.  Eddie John­son now toil­ing in the sec­ond flight of Eng­lish Foot­ball and with two goals at any level in the last twelve months is one of only two true strik­ers on the squad, the other being Brian Ching who plays in a more with­drawn role. Kenny Cooper, whose exploits in MLS and qual­ity that has attaracted inter­est of sides like Rosen­borg in the Cham­pi­ons League has been omit­ted once again. Cooper was last called into the national team in March 2007.

Mo Edu who recently trans­ferred to Rangers in Glas­gow has been selected as has John­son who moved to sec­ond divi­sion Cardiff City last week from Ful­ham where he flopped. This refuts any claim that play­ers that have recently trans­ferred such as Adu and Alti­dore should not be called into the side. Much more on this squad selec­tion early tomorrow.
