I grew up in northern New Jersey and went to numerous Cosmos games in Giants Stadium (more than 50 all told, I'm sure) starting in 1977 and through 1982; I was at Pele's last game, as well as the 1978 and (sadly Cosmos-free) 1979 Soccer Bowls. I also got back to the area for the '94 World Cup match between Ireland and Italy. (And I saw my share of pointy-ball games there as well). So I'll miss Giants Stadium and will always remember it fondly. It was kind of a soulless place (as were most stadia built in the '60s and '70s), but a lot of great things happened there.

It seems quite apparent that the new stadium will be the crown jewel of the MLS and hopefully NYRB can put out a team worthy of the stadium they will be playing in.
