by Kartik Krishnaiyer on September 11, 2009 · 13 comments

Russia’s Mens National team made it through the international break unscathed. Now the stage is set for October 10th’s battle with Germany in Moscow. On third episode of Russian Football Now’s podcast, hosts Chris Riordan and Richard Farley discuss Russia’s qualifiers against Liechtenstein and Wales as well as all the latest rumors surrounding the likes to Luciano Spalletti and Adrian Mutu’s moves to the Premier League.

Kartik…the DP slot was actually used for good this time around. JDG is a domestic superstar and not even 30 yet. This should be covered!

Is Russia leading it’s group? No, it isn’t and yet the US is. We don’t get the luxury of playing Wales, Liechtenstein, and Azerbaijan, yet we are in better shape than Russia.

This site continues to insult the American soccer fan.

Russia has 21 points from 8 games, compared to our 16.

They’re in second place because they lost to Germany. We lost to Costa Rica. There’s a slight difference.

Frankly, I have no interest in Russia’s league, or in the Sbornaya. But I’m able to skip over posts without whining about “insults”.

Roy, no offense, but Wales is a very good national team. You may not see that from their results or their FIFA ranking, but the team is filled with a lot of youngsters who gave Russia (who were unlucky not to qualify for the final of the Euro 2008 tournament) a run for their money both in Russia and in Wales.

Wales could beat Costa Rica and TNT. They would be a close match to the United States.

Cheers,
The Gaffer

Russian Football Now. How quaint.

Why don’t we have AMERICAN SOCCER NOW instead on this increasingly anti-American site.

It’s not anti-American to look at the outside world. I’ve never understood why Americans feel that being involved and paying attention to things outside their own country is so wrong. Sometimes you can learn a thing or two, or maybe even find something that interests you.

Lars,

Or that they may actually be WRONG about everything.

You’re 100 percent right. These people don’t have the guts to look at things from outside the US and question what they believe. I guess they would rather not hear the truth because they don’t want to be set free.

Americans would rather listen to what they are told instead of trying to find things out for themselves. They’d rather talk about Kanye West at the VMAs than things that might actually be important. As for Russian football, it may seem a bit odd to advertise a Russian football podcast on an American soccer blog. But if Kartik thinks its good, all power to him to advertise it and expose people to different football from around the globe and not just the US, England, Italy, Spain, and Germany.

Kartik-

It is nothing short of disgraceful and patronizing that you continue to link this show every week. You’ve now done it twice. If anyone really cared about Russian soccer, we’d find the show ourselves.

Thankfully, our fans are focused on our league and our national team and don’t waste our time with inferior leagues and a national team whose qualification record for major championships is spotty when compared to ours.
