I still don’t understand the obsession with the lone striker. USA doesn’t have a world class striker who can turn defenders. 4-1-2-1-2 need to be looked at. Watching USA play 4-2-3-1 a few months back showed that our mid-fielders bunch up and we lose our width and we do not have wing backs to provide the width that we need.

      Agreed.

The US with its holes ( left back, finisher ) gives up offense at the EXPENSE of a worse “D” and like you said bunches up the mid-field in the process.
Find out who you have..even if you have to look out a few years..then coach a system around it.

We have always agreed that soccer is a great game, worth playing, coaching, and watching.
I hope you had a great one.

I just like that we are talking soccer.

I disagree – I think if the US is relatively strong in midfield, and relatively weak at forward, then it makes sense to play a system that allows you to use as many midfielders as possible, and as few forwards.

If you go with something like a 4-2-3-1, then you can accomodate 3 fairly attacking midfielders like Dempsey, Donovan and Holden behind whoever you pick as the “1″ forward.

I don’t think the US has two strikers good enough to justify dropping one of those midfielders. I think a 4-4-2 only works against weaker opposition, so if the US wants to continue to improve, it should be looking at ways to succeed in underdog situations.

Also, given that Chile often play 3 at the back, if the US played two up front it would be playing straight into their hands.

What a great start! Edson Buddle scored his first goal for Ingolstadt today in the 1 to 1 draw with Duisdurg in Bundesliga II.

      Buddle’s agent should be fired.

I’m really anticipating Wondo making his debut. Wondo and the prospect-ful Agudelo may be the eminent front of forwards that the USNT has been missing.

    Hopefully, all goes well.
