Holden was an absolute failure at Sunderland and came to MLS with really no prospects- hence the low salary. Since then, the Dynamo have repeatedly offered him a new contract with a much higher salary, but he's pretty much made it clear that he wants to leave MLS at the end of his current contract, and thus doesn't want to sign a new one.
