Who replaces Bravo’s goals? Sapong, Convey, Saad, Dwyer. Who
replaces Bravo’s and Arnaud’s leadership? Kamara, Cesar, Nielsen,
Besler. Turnover? Of the players that have left the team, only one
[Bravo] started and played with any regularity. PV is building
depth that is young, fast, and versatile. Can the defense hold?
This is the best of your questions. But let’s look at the reality
of the stats. Sporting gave up 24 goals on the road. But 19 of
those were surrendered during that first 10 game road trip when the
team was still gelling and trying to find itself. Only 5 goals were
given up during the remaining 7 road games. So, take out those
first 10 games all on the road and you have a little bit better
picture of a defense that developed and came together as the season
progressed. Yes, Collin had too many cards. But now he also has a
year in the league and understands how to not only play better with
his teammates, but also how to better play to how refs in the MLS
call games. The defensive lineup already has much more stability
going into this next season than it has had for a few years. And it
has versatility — with the abilities of players like Cesar,
Harrington, Olum, Cyrus, and maybe even Hedrick to lend a hand when
needed along the back line. Add to all of this the fact that there
will be no looooong road trips this year and you might just have to
consider that Sporting KC should be considered a strong favorite to
    repeat as Eastern Division champions.
