The only two that would be acceptable for non/light soccer fans are Castle and Explains the World. Soccer in a Football World requires a love of the sport and Trekkers book does not have the quality writing to make it required reading for a non fan.

I read “How soccer explains the world” and really enjoyed the book. I would recommend to anyone.

How about Kuper’s Soccernomics? That one seems interesting.

Soccer In a Football World is amazing. There’s so much USA soccer history I had no clue about such as leagues in the 10’s, 20’s and 30’s that were well attended and actually reported on in the press.

Foer’s books is good but the concept was ripped off from Simon Kuper’s Soccer Against the Enemy (Football Against the Enemy around the Globe) and is far superior.

The Miracle of Castel Di Sangro is a great read about an American journalist following a lower division team in Italy.
