I'm in the process of putting together a blog about the ALS (both I & II), and in that process I've kinda of been thinking of the NASL being to American soccer what Boy Bands are to the music industry.

MLS is taking a beating here in the past few days. No doubt the league needs to allow for higher salaries and deeper squads, but unless you allow the pockets to get really deep, there will always be some players that dream of playing in Europe due the mystique and history surrounding the major leagues there and the belief that they will receive better competition and training. Is that the case, I'll let you rest of you debate that, but if your not playing you may have been better off staying in MLS.

I believe the league has taken some positive steps in the past couple of years with the DP rule, and attempting to focus on more technical play, however as with anything new (and relative to many leagues domestically in other sports and abroad, MLS is still relatively new) their will be puts and takes and many growing pains. The key is progress and I think we are making it.

Finally, in terms of KC, who thinks the Wizards will eventually move to St. Louis if they can't fill their new baseball stadium this year. Or am I mistaken and they have finally locked down a stadium deal?

The NASL was "too American" for many real sooccer lovers but MLS isn't quality enough for these same contrarians. Maybe we should just admit the Eurosnobs within our midst will bash any Americanized product whatsoever. They are damn smug and guilty to be American. We should charter them a 747 and fly them all on a one way ticket to London where they belong@

After 12 years MLS has developed something of it's own identity and gained some stability. It is a shame that, much like the NASL, the MLS does not seem capable of looking at the big picture objectively and reasessing it's policies and practices to adapt a new situation. The MLS is no longer a new league and transition its policies from that to more capable and credible one. MLS is not minor league in CONCACAF or the Americas. MLS needs to stop paying its players thusly.
