Hopefully he'll flop at Milan like he did at Newcastle so they bench his ass and he'll be crap for the world cup. A country where soccer is the fourth(?) most popular sport after football, basketball and baseball should never win the world cup. It would be a disgrace

What truly amazes me (and might also be indicative of soccer's place in the USA) is that 24 hours after the news first broke, does Gooch's alma mater have ANYTHING on its athletics Web site about the signing of an alum to one of the most prestigious soccer teams IN THE WORLD? As of 1350 EST Wednesday, nope.

Any Clemson alums out there (and I'm not one) should feel free to bug your alma mater's AD incessantly until they post something.

Brus, What in the world are you talking about...What is wrong with somebody liking a club in europe...absoutley nothing. It kills me to watch MLS anyhow...i watched LA and New England the other night and it bought drove me crazy because they suck so bad neither team could keep posession of the ball for longer than a freakin minute and this wasnt a possesion war that was interesting or worth watching either....I might like a MLS team if there were better talent here. US the fans can not just simply say bring good players here..i believe the club has to do that...and i dont think the clubs here in america have enough money to buy a freakin Ronaldo or a Kaka...so thats that lol...unless players decide to take a pay cut and the transfer fee is brought down or the players come on loan. I do like the idea one of the Barcalona players had thought about coming to the USA to play. i dont remember the guys name but it was exciting to think he would or maybe make a move to come play here in the USA but one guy just wont do it...

Really just so happy for all involved. Onyewu, the USMNT, the USSF, and American fans have something to be proud of. Our team took on the worlds best in South Africa and Onyewu and others showed themselves to be world class. There can be no denying American talent now. For whatever reason US talent was held back in Europe. I say the barrier is broken. The effects for American soccer will be long lasting.

I can only hope that we see more signings in the near future with the likes of Altidore, Dempsey, and Donovan, etc. putting their names on big dollar contracts and being brought in to play not sit on the bench . American's can play soccer at any level and in any country. The coach that keeps young American talent on the bench is a fool. A good day for the RED, WHITE, and BLUE.

John H - Eurosnobs like you are your imaginary friends are what kills American soccer. A bunch of American thinking that supporting a foreign club makes them special. It's living a lie and un-American.

Until America and its fans stop acting inferior to Europe, than the majority of American sport fans will never take soccer seriously and only see it as a foreign sport.

Colin Cowherd of ESPN is right. You want soccer to be popular in America? Make MLS one of the best leagues in the world. We are a nation of leagues. 80,000 showed up to see Ronaldo at Madrid. Wouldn't that be great if it happened one day in America? That should be our goal. Not a bunch of America running around Europe in places where the average American can't even find on a map.

i think Gooch can and will rise to the occasion. We've not seen his best yet. Serie A is about the antithesis of MLS/US play or, put another way, the perfect complement. Mastering the Italian way of football could make Gooch an absolutely world class player. We'll hope and have faith, yes?

For their money AC Milan get a player who, I believe, can out jump any soccer player in the world in height. Lets hope Gooch does much more for them than rule the air.
