With Davies and Dempsey now injured, give Arnoux this opportunity to represent our nation! Bob Bradley needs to seriously be replaced. Ask yourself this, what other national team has a coach who throws his son on the starting lineup?!?! They must take us as a joke in the footballing community. Michael Bradley and many others I’ve seen in an American uniform couldn’t even hang in some pickup games I’ve played in!!! Seriously see better talent all the time than what we have in our starting lineup, put Cody on the pitch at Everton and in an American jersey and watch him shine!!!

Lets change for the good before we have to wait another 4 years for a title shot!!!!

Not Seen much of Cody, but be reassured, that of all the top 30 clubs in Europe of which Everton are one, the development program is second to none. As ever the english PL, is not just based on skill, but 90mins non stop football/hard work, no hiding place if you dont have the engine, but if he has the will, he will get his opportunity under Moyes. As Moyes has proved time and time again of bringing young talent thru the ranks. Good Luck to the lad, hope to see him in the 1st team soon. KAS9999, Everton Supporter since 1964.

Nice to see the development of American soccer.

It’s time to read a great new soccer comedy, entitled Classes Apart.
This is an adult sporting comedy that follows the fortunes of Paul Marriot, the secretary of the Barnstorm Village Sunday soccer team and coach of a school cricket team in Yorkshire, England. The story describes the remarkable camaraderie between the players and supporters of this little club and their desire to achieve success. The team had previously been known more for its antics off the field, rather than their performances on it.

During his time at the club he meets and becomes involved with Emma Potter, who is the sister of James Potter, a major player for their bitter rivals Moortown Inn. Thus, begins an entangled web of romance and conflict. He also begins working at Derry High School, a school with a poor reputation of academic success, where he becomes coach of the school cricket team. Here he develops an amazing relationship with the children and they embark on an epic journey.

Good point Berlin, just was making the PDL comparison for the three. All three played PDL the summer before they left for Europe and the scouts used their experience in PDL as opposed to college soccer which has different rules and a more defensive mentality to justify signing them.

This is way different than Tracy and Davies. Both those players started out in mid-level European leagues and got playing time. Arnoux will likely ride the pine and struggle to continue his development unless he’s a prodigious talent or gets loaned out.

That’s one more reason to love the PDL and NCAA. Based on what I have read and heard lately, our US Youth programs and Bradenton might be hindering our growth. We invest a lot of money and time training players who are ending up as duds. Sure there have been some good ones, but what percentage of them end up going nowhere? With players like Davies, Tracy, and Arnoux NOT coming from the system, maybe that’s a sign that the system is broken. Maybe it’s time for the USSF to do some reassessment…
Stories like this remind me that we have a lot of untapped talent in this country. Unfortunately most of that talent will remain untapped because the players don’t fit the US “style” of play. We are so focused on formation and position that we forget that association football is a free flowing game that is dominated by teams capitalizing on creativity. Brazil remains superb because they embrace their diverse players and allow them the ability to be creative during the run of play. The US, on the other hand, is a disciplined machine that features mainly straight line dribbling and coordinated passes. We look more stressed on the field and it is easy to imagine our national team practices featuring the same drills as our youth select team, run in perfect time to a steadily blown whistle. I don’t imagine there is a lot of “free” scrimmage time either; I could definitely see our national team having controlled scrimmages/practices that resemble the American football practice scenes in Varsity Blues.
Being in a PDL city, I love watching how our guys play. Casey Mann is a relaxed tactician that allows the Menace to play a free style game. Positions are fluid, creativity is encouraged. The games are exciting to watch. He won the PDL Championship and advanced to the 4th round of the USOC in his first year. This year he won the Heartland Division. And the team contends every year. Do we have the best players in the league, not really. But these guys are relaxed on the field and have fun. Just like Brazil usually (except the first half of the Confed Cup final) looks relaxed and to be having fun.
If our USMNT coaches could figure out how to capitalize on our diversity of talent with its variety of backgrounds and ignore the goals of our “official” training programs, maybe we could win a game or two in the next World Cup…
