"Outside agitators"? Really? Does this blog need to use such loaded language in order to provoke comments and discussion? And it's not even accurate -- as others have pointed out MLSPU is a member of FIFPro.

"Does FIFAPRO and MLSPU realize that our country is different and our structures need to be different."

we have been sold that argument over and over, specially not to embrace promotion and relegation. However ,there is a bigger picture here.

The main reason this game is the biggest in the world is because there is certain philossofy soccer has practice not only on internationall competition but on continental clubs championships and domestic leagues as well.
It is the idea that every body deserves a chance to compete.look how many little islands try to qualify for the world cup even though realistically they may have no chance, yet they are granted a try.To include ,not to leave out,is the idea.
By not using a promotion and relegation system US soccer is out of touch with one of soccer fundamental values.
This is a country that promotes democracy,so a promotion and relegation system would not only be within FIFA spirit but also america's.

MLS isn't good enough for millionaires or even $100,000 a season players. They need to freaking PLAY BETTER before they get the big bucks. Did you see that super fast guy on RSL in the Cup final? Robbie Findley? Great athlete, absolutely horrible technique. No raise for MLS players until that guy learns to trap the ball!

Yea, there's no reason for FIFpro not to back up an affiliate, it's why the organization exists to begin with.

Does FIFAPRO and MLSPU realize that our country is different and our structures need to be different. I hope MLS does not give an inch on the structure. Single entity has worked.

Well... if you click through the link, the US is a FIFpro member nation. There's no reason why the union *shouldn't* have brought them in.

That said, I do think some of the tactics are alarmist. Stop trying to win the fans over, just sit down and work it out together for goodness' sake. Most of us aren't going to much care *what* you did to keep play going as long as you keep play going with the same players. The way I see it, the worst thing that could happen would be for the two sides to lose sight of the bigger picture and next year have us end up with replacement players. That would *kill* the league.

Yes, it is fine that FIFPro is supporting one of its affiliate members, the MLSPU. Particularly if the legal minds at both organizations believe that the current CBA is in violation of FIFA rules. I'm specifically thinking of the situation with 'out of contract' players and players' share of transfer fees.
MLS Players catch the short end of the stick in so many ways that are within the rules(and out of their control), it's only right that they seek any legal avenue to improve their lot.
A similar situation essentially ended MLB All-Star Curt Flood's career in order to break through barriers in that sport. It may take a similar act in MLS.

Like it or not Bob, football is not an "American" sport to be run any oh way. It's an international sport with international rules to be adhered to.

The players union must be stopped and broken if need be. Bringing in an outside group of union thugs who use words like cartel to describe the only possible structure that could have sustained soccer in this country is so damaging to the game.

I hope the game, and MLS which has done so much to move us forward can survive this unwanted advance.
