Bob Bradley has been sacked by USSF as coach of the US men’s national team.
“We want to thank Bob Bradley for his service and dedication to U.S. Soccer during the past five years,” said Gulati. “During his time as the head coach of our Men’s National Team he led the team to a number of accomplishments, but we felt now was the right time for us to make a change. It is always hard to make these decisions, especially when it involves someone we respect as much as Bob. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”
Bradley led the United States men’s national team to success in the 2009 Confederations Cup where the United States lost in the final against Brazil. He also led the team to a successful run in the 2010 World Cup where the team topped the opening group round until they were defeated by Ghana in extra time.
However, Bradley was the subject of a lot of criticism during the summer of 2011 when the United States gave very uninspiring performances in the Gold Cup before ultimately losing 4-2 in the final against Mexico.
Many argued, myself included, that the United States has reached a standstill in the development of the national team. In hindsight, I would argue that the USSF should have not renewed Bradley’s contract after the end of the 2010 World Cup. But they finally came to the correct decision.
Earlier this week, the United States team dropped in FIFA’s rankings to number 30 in the world, while Mexico rose to 20th position.
