Another Classic Semifinal between Pachuca and Houston

Much like the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals where Houston and Pachuca played quite possibly the best game of club football not played on the European continent this year, the Dynamo were once again eliminated by Pachuca in epic fashion. This match was every bit as exciting as the Champions Cup match, although it lacked the number of near misses and the frantic pace of the extra time period of that match. Unfortunately for both Houston and MLS, Pachuca, the reigning Mexican Clausura, Copa Sudamericana, and CONCACAF Champions Cup winners are one step away from adding to their impressive silverware case. Pachuca must be considered a heavy favorite against either DC United or LA Galaxy, and since they have once again bested Houston in epic fashion, one must wonder if the rivalry between the two reigning champions of their leagues could become one of the biggest in North America. The extra time and PK shootout seemed every bit as tense as the extra time periods we’ve seen in Champions League and the UEFA Cup, and that bodes well for the long term image of Superliga.
